the blue room

The Blue Room is a sequel to The Crimson Room, one of those frustratingly interesting Japanese flash games.

You take the point of view of a character who has become locked in a room. Within that room are all of the materials you need to make your escape, the only catch is that you have to find them.

The game can be frustrating, but really all it takes is a lot of wild clicking. Eventually you'll land on something important and progress your game. I've played a lot of Crimson Room and another knock off of this sub-sub-sub-genre and I can say that they are interesting, but ultimately little more than distractions, time wasters for a boring day at work. (But when boiled down that far, what isn't?)

I mentioned a parody - it's called "Escape the Room": http://uploads.ungrounded.net/215000/215251_escapetheroom.swf .
Newgrounds (http://newgrounds.com/) is actually pretty fascinating, if, ah, not always workplace safe.

And "Mystery of Time and Space" - it's refreshing to move among more than one room.
